Add-on cooling system

The add-on cooling unit is added onto a ducted gas system, using the fan of the ducted gas unit to move air across the cooling coil. It can only be connected to some units, and you are limited to the fan capacity of the gas heater which will dictate the capacity of the add-on cooling system that can be fitted. These have poor energy efficiency, as it is not a complete system, and it can’t be tested like a normal ducted air conditioning system. Therefore, it does not need to comply to the same MEPS standards. The claimed unit’s capacity is what they call “nominal capacity “ which is what the system could deliver without any losses.

This capacity doesn’t reflect the actual cooling capacity output including all losses, heat of fan, statistic duct pressure and system tested temperatures. They are the only unit still available with a non-inverter compressor.

The claimed EER (Energy Efficiency Rating) available in the brochures is very misleading and not measured in accordance with AS/NZS3823.1.2 that all other ducted air conditioners capacities are required to comply to.

Floor-Standing Unit

These units are positioned on the floor against a wall. To operate efficiently, they need clear space in front of them. So they should not be positioned behind lounge suites or couches that obstruct the airflow. Some units can also be semi-recessed into the wall to make them less obtrusive.

Cassette Unit

These units fit neatly into the ceiling and are an ideal option to condition rooms where there are no available walls to mount a split system on or where there is limited ceiling space for a ducted system.

Flexi Unit

These units can be positioned on the wall at floor level or attached to the ceiling. The major benefit of these units is that they are highly practical in homes where wall and floor space is limited.
